The Last Airbender Review

*WARNING* This review contains some spoilers!

The Last Airbender. I just got back from seeing that movie. Before I tell you my thoughts on the film, let me just tell you what the show means to me.

When you hear the word, Avatar, you probably think of the recent James Cameron film nowadays. But that is another movie for another topic for another time.

The show, Avatar: The Last Airbender is about the four elements: Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. No its not a National Geographic documentary. Its about the many people who control those elements. Long ago (at least that's how the introduction goes), the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elemens, could stop them. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. 100 years passed, this waterbending girl, Katara, and her comical brother, Sokka, discovered a new Avatar. An Airbender named Aang. And although is Airbending skills are great, he has alot to learn before he's ready to save anybody. But Katara believes Aang can save the world...

I pretty much gave you the whole plot! But there is more to it. The villain, or at least we all saw him that way, is the Fire Nation's Prince, Zuko. Zuko is banished from the Fire Nation, and is on this mission to capture the Avatar (you know who I'm talking about) and regain honor from his Father, The Fire Lord! The Fire Lord is the real bad guy of the whole series! He was one riveting villain.

But I don't want to give much away. So you'll just have to watch the show to find out for your self. The show, of course, is a true MASTERPIECE! It's basicly the new Pokemon, or WAS. The show ended back in 2008 :(! It was probably one of the best shows I have seen, ever! And it is such a Blessing that I have cable, and am connected to Nicktoons. So I can watch it whenever it comes on. But for those of you who don't have cable (sorry for my selfish pride) you shall also rejoice, for it is on DVD! You may rent it or buy it as you please!

So to conclude for my review of the show, the show gets an A. But hey, sorry if that isn't enough for you. For those of you who haven't seen the show, you should check it out!

Now for the movie. First of all, my dream is to be a film maker. So I already have a bookload of ideas. One of those was to make the Last Airbender into a movie. Like I said, the show is a true masterpiece, so back in 2009, it was exciting to hear a live-action film was in the works! After all, it is a great show, so why shouldn't it get the Hollywood treatment. I always thoght I was going to make the film. But hey, at least we get to see it as a film anyways. Right? That seemed so exciting back in the day.

I just saw it today (as I just said earlier) coming into the theatre, I had NO expectations! Why? Because of all the bad crappy reviews that's why! My sister was pretty excited for it. My sister and I love that show! So my Sister seemed as though she had high expectations for it.

SO the movie came on, and I must say it was about as exciting... as MATH CLASS! Or any class for that matter. School in the summer, what a bummer! (another thing you should know about me is I'm a rhymer!). This movie did not stay true to the show whatsoever! Now I know how Harry Potter fans felt when the movies made no sense to the books. (I just read two chapters of the first book! But again, another topic for another time).

The opening was pathetic. In the show, the bending moves were so cool. But, that was the cartoon. This is live action, it looked like they were ballet dancing or something!

The story was so rushed. I mean when Aang is unfrozen from the ice berg, they go to fast with it! I mean next time you see him, he's in the tent at the water tribe. And all he says is, "I ran away from the temple. I was a little upset. But now I'm all better!" What?!? M. Night Shayalman seemed to have deleted so many scenes to this film. But hey, I don't blame him. How else can you cram a 21 episode season into one 2 hour movie?

The dialogue was cheesy! I mean, "First, I must capture the Avatar! Then we can focus on the pretty girls!" WHAT WAS THAT?!?! It's like some hing out of a teen flick with perverts!

The Romances were cliche.

The casting was silly! I mean Avatar TLB obviously is based on Asian cultures! But the Nuts at Hollywood casted white actors to play these characters! The only asian people were such small parts! Like Aang's old mentor, Monkyatso, isn't played by an Asian. And also the extras were asians. Is that all?

The actors themselves were no charm. They might as well have gotten wooden puppets to play them! No offense to Phinochio, but again, another topic for another time!

Plus, some parts didn't make sense! Like when they call little kids to come over, I couldn't tell if they were boys or girls. They looked like girls, but then they said, "little boy." And I'm like "how can they tell if it was a boy or a girl?" It looked alot like a girl, Honestly!

The parts when they explain their back stories was weak! I mean the way Zuko does it is by asking a little boy to explain it. What was the point of that part?! And the Princess of the Northern Water tribe, her back story was poorly done also. Sokka says, "My granma will ask, 'why is your hair white?'". Then the Princess says, "I would tell her that 'When I was a baby, I couldn't breathe...'" And so on, and so on!

Oh, and Aang's back story is he was to go through this ritual that all the people bow to him and he bows back. But he ran away. He got another chance in the end, to bow to the Water Tribe. And I couldn't even tell if he was bowing or if he was going to do a move!

And for once, not even the villains saved the show! Usually the bad guy is the highliight. Like Darth Vader, the Joker, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Gargoyle from Fantasia, and even Zuko and the Fire Lord. But these villains were pathetic! I mean the actor playing Zhou was wooden and silly. Zuko was useless. And the Fire Lord was pathetic!

But not all of it was terrible. I mean the action was pretty legit. And my Sister was scared by some scenes. So, like Darth Vader, there is some good to it.

If you are loking for the most boring, cheesiest, and rediculous movie of the year, look no further. You might just find it now playing at a theatre near you, for $5.00!

Luckily, I am about to watch a little bit of the pilot episode of the series to get the bad taste of the movie out of my mouth!
